happy chinese new year!!!

This is my first chinese new year away from home and family, because of my studies. Being away from home is hard for me. I'm generally a home person. I love being at home with my family and especially on chinese new year where i get to meet my uncles, aunties and of course bully my little cutie cousins. Not to mention the amount of money i get from angpau!

I spend alternative new years with my mother and father's family. And is been awhile i spend it with my mother's family because this year i suppose to visit my mother's family. Is really sad, not being able to eat yee sang and play chor dai ti...Other than the none important things i miss most is my auntie famous braised pork. I seldom get to see her and the only time i get to see her, i'm stuck here in aberdeen, Scotland which is 20 hours away by flight.

Well i guess i just have to make most of the situation. So i cooked bak kut teh(lucky i brought some from home) and got the guys over to eat with me. A different kind of reunion party, not with family but with the friends that are on the same boat with me. Most important of all their like my cooking!! Haha, first cooking bak kut teh and it taste good!! I'm just plain talented in cooking, hahaha!! self praising..so big headed! =P

However not everyone is here, wendy, pak khuen and kok beng went to Glasgow this morning to greet Pak Khuen's parents tomorrow to pick up the some of their luggage. So lucky of them because Glasgow have Chinatown with at least have some feel of Chinese New Year.

I'm surpised by a friend who is in kl yet refuses to back to his hometown to celebrate with his family. The reason he gave me was he hate arguing with his brother who work in Singapore and always boast how well is he doing. He told me his brother bought some abalone home and was critised about him not bringing anything home and etc etc. I feel this is very sad for him and his family. The New Year suppose to mean family togetherness and not about your ability to show off what pricey food u brought home.

Everything about Chinese New Year or other celebration are so commercialised nowadays. What ever happened to the good old days where neighbour knock on your door and invite to their celebration??

my 21st b'day!

i started my day by going to the university to enrol, pay fees, etc etc...finally i got my id card! yay!!had my lunch at bunger king..
first thing i did with my id card- get a month bus card! then went shopping a at shop called poundland..everything there is 1 pound!
reach back at the hostel...rest a while and then cook tomyam!! my b'day meal!!
my 1st time cooking tom yam and is quite yummy!!!still prefer mom's..taste nicer maybe coz the herbs were fresh and mine's not..

And now i'm sitting in front of my laptop, writing this blog...sien rite...wat a way to spend the most important b'day of my life...i'm so sad...wish i'm back in msia where i know everyone will throw a great party to celebrate my b'day..i didn't even get to cut a cake!! is too pricey here..*sob *sob
21st b'day means a lot to me and i'm sure to everyone else. It represent that u are leaving behind your teenage years and entering adulthood. And my first adult-ish action was to be practical and not burn a hold in my pocket by spending lotsa money but yet i feel shitty for not being able to have all the fun that i want. OMG i'm turning old or what, i stop having fun and start being practical. Does adulthood really change a person?? In my case, i suppose the answer is yes. I also planning to earn my own wages to pay my own tuition fees. I guess being adult makes me more practical and independent.(not that i'm not be4 turning 21)

However as practical as i can or might be i hope to have lotsa fun yet fun seems so far-fetched. Can adulthood really take away fun and make me a boring person?? i used to think not yet now i'm not quite sure.. what do u think?

Exploring

Third day here at aberdeen, realise most of the shop closed or open for 4 hours only..Nicholas arrive today so we showed him around though there ain't much to see..
Yesterday was very nice, the streets were crowded and i had fun going around the shop at Union street. There's a big statue of King Edward VII in the middle of the city. The statue was really artistic so i decided to take a picture with it. =P

In the evening we went down to the beach, about 20 mins walk from my hostel. On the way there, i saw a chapel,it look very ancient and have graveyard around it. The graveyard here look clean, nice and actually pleasent too see..Imaigine walking next to a cemetary in Msia..it gives me goosebump!!!!

Reach the beach and i saw a few surfer in the water..Omg the weather is already cold and they ARE IN THE COLDEST SEA IN THE WORLD!! so geng!! The wind from the North Sea was freezing and we decided ate ice-cream(since i saw a bunch of kids eating and the guys don't wanna lost out)=P! haha!!

Tomorrow morning my orientation starts and i hope to meet a whole new bunch of people!!
